Lakewood, Fla. - The Southern Miss women's golf team shot an opening round 294 to sit in fourth-place after the first round of the 36th annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational. The tournament is being hosted by FIU and is being played at the par-72, 6,275-yard Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.
The 294 is the fourth-lowest round in school history. They are seven shots back of leader FIU.
Senior Brandi Rodriguez fired the best round of her career, shooting an opening 69 to sit in a tie for second-place. The 69 is the second lowest round in school history and is just the fourth round in the 60's ever. She is also the first Lady Eagle with 10 career rounds of par or better.
Sophomore Juliana Herrera is tied for 14th-place after carding a career-best 72. It is her first career round of par or better.
Sophomore Jennifer Nguyen, playing as an individual, posted a career best 73 to sit in a 19th-place tie. Freshman Devon Spriddle is tied for 36th-place after posting a career-best 76.
Redshirt senior Lauren Judson shot a 77 to sit in a tie for 43rd-place and freshman Emily Ross posted an 81 to sit in a 74th-place tie.
Rodriguez is tied for second-place with FIU's Coralia Arias, two shots behind individual leader Taylor Gohn of Missouri.
The second round begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
