HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's golf team had its best round of the year as it finished in 11th-place at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational. The tournament was hosted by Mississippi State and was played at the par-72, 6,113-yard Old Waverly Golf Course.
The Lady Eagles shot an 18-over par 306, its best round of the year, to finish 87-over par.
Senior Brandi Rodriguez fired a final round 71 to finish eight-over par, tied for 24th-place. It was her second round of par or better this year and her ninth of her career.
Sophomore Jennifer Nguyen carded a career-low 78 to finish 21-over par. Her 54-hole score of 237 was also a career-best.
Freshman Emily Ross posted a 76 to finish in a 54th-place tie at 25-over par. The 76 is a career-low, as is her 54-hole score of 241.
Freshman Devon Spriddle shot an 81 to finish 34-over par in 57th-place and senior Kaylee Random, playing in her first tournament of the year, finished in 60th-place at 41-over par after shooting an 84.
Mississippi State won the team competition at 20-under par, 21 shots ahead of East Carolina, who was one-over par.
Mississippi State's Ally McDonald earned medalist honors at nine-under par, one shot in front of teammate Jessica Peng.
Southern Miss returns to the links in three weeks when it travels to Sarasota, Fla., for the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, Oct. 20-22.
