Southern Miss Women's Golf in Eighth-Place after First Round of Conference USA Championships

Gulf Shores, Ala. - The Southern Miss women's golf team shot an opening round 309 to sit 21-over par in eighth-place after one round of the 2013 Conference USA Championships, played at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala., on the par-72, 6,426-yard Cypress-Marsh Course.

Tulane leads the team competition at three-over par. East Carolina (+5) is two-shots back in second-place and UCF is in third at 13-over par.

Senior Vicky Correa shot an opening round 74 to sit four shots back of the lead in an eighth-place tie. Sophomore Brandi Rodriguez is tied for 23rd-place after posting a 77.

Junior Lauren Judson and freshman Juliana Herrera are tied for 35th-place after each shooting rounds of 79. Junior Kaylee Random closed out the scoring by posting an 81 to tie for 42nd-place.

East Carolina's Nico Engstroem Skaug and F. Gustafsson Spang are tied for the individual lead two-under par. Tulane's Silvia Garces is in third-place at one-under par.

The championship continues tomorrow with the second round beginning at 7:45. Southern Miss will tee off from hole #10.
