Oxford, Miss. - Senior Brandi Rodriguez fired consecutive 71's to finish four-under par in second-place at the Rebel Intercollegiate. The tournament was hosted by Ole Miss and was being played at the par 72, 6,279-yard Ole Miss Golf Course.
Rodriguez now has nine rounds of par or better this year and 16 for her career. The Orlando, Fla., becomes the first Lady Eagle in school history to card all rounds under par in a 54-hole tournament. She also set school records for 36-hole score (141), 54-hole score (212) and score relative to par (-4). It is also her third top five finish this year and the eighth of her career.
As a team, the Lady Eagles tied for 13th-place at 40-over par with Notre Dame after shooting round of 302 and 297. The 297 is the eighth lowest round in school history and the 54-hole score of 904 is the fourth lowest in Southern Miss history.
Sophomore Juliana Herrera carded rounds of 73 and 72 to finish tied for 33rd, seven-over par. The 72 is her fourth round of par or better this year.
Freshman Devon Spriddle finished in 79th-place at 19-over par after posting rounds of 82 and 77. Senior Kaylee Random tied for 83rd-place after shooting rounds of 76 and 77 to finish 22-over par and freshman Emily Ross posted rounds of 84 and 83 to finish in 93rd-place at 32-over par.
GRU-Augusta won the team competition at seven-over par, three shots in front of Kennesaw State. GRU's Jessica Haigwood won medalist honors at six-under par, two shots in front of Rodriguez.
Southern Miss closes the season in two weeks when it travels to Gulf Shores, Ala., for the 2014 Conference USA Championship, April 21-23.
