Southern Miss Finishes 10th at Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss shot its second-lowest round of the season over the final 18 holes of the Ole Miss Intercollegiate at Oxford, Miss., Sunday, finishing 10th in the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
The Golden Eagles shot a 296 at the par 72, 6,323-yard Ole Miss Golf Course, to finish with a 915 total and moving up another spot in the 15-team field.
Junior Devon Spriddle ended the tournament with the team's lowest score of 222, after shooting a 73 in her final round. Spriddle, who fired a 72 on Saturday, ended six-over par to finish tied for 11th in the event.
Fellow junior Emily Ross (Diamondhead, Miss.), which ended her tournament with a 228 and a 26th-place tie, fired the team's lowest round on Sunday with a par 72.
Southern Miss freshmen Henriette Syr (Oslo, Norway) and Valentina Haupt (Santiago, Chile) shot an 80 and a 76, respectively, to finish tied for 51st and tied for 69th. Syr ended her three-day tournament with a 233, while Haupt added a 237 stroke total in the event.
Junior Kelly Erasmus (Capetown, South Africa) added a 75 over her final 18 holes to finish tied for 77th in the tournament.
Troy won the team title with an overall total of 871, after shooting a 292 on the final day. They defeated host Ole Miss (888) by 17 strokes, followed by Harvard and Fresno State (895), ETSU (902), Memphis (904), Western Carolina (909), Murray State (911), Tulsa (913), Southern Miss (915), WKU (918), Samford (924), James Madison (930), Yale (931) and Redlands CC (977).
Fatima Cano of Troy shot a final round 66 to win the individual title with a 209 stroke total, beating Moa Folke of Murray State by five strokes.
The Golden Eagles return to action April 18-20 at the Conference USA Championship, being played at the Verandah Club in Ft. Myers, Fla.
