Women's Golf Wins UAB Fall Beach Bash

It is the second victory of the season for the Lady Eagles.

Julie Gallup is in her 15th season as the Head Coach of the Southern Miss women’s golf program. Last season, she led the Lady Eagles to a seventh-place finish in the Conference USA Championship, while leading the team to the Lady Eagle Invitational title and Top Ten finishes in six of 10 tournaments.

During her 14 seasons, the women’s team has set records in 18, 36 and 54 hole team score and Gallup has coached individuals to those same records. Coach Gallup has also coached 11 NGCA Academic All-American selections and seven All-Conference performers.

Gallup came to Southern Miss from East Tennessee State, where she was the head coach for the 1999-2000 seasons. While at ETSU, the team improved its average by over a dozen shots and finished in the top eight in every tournament.

Prior to coaching at East Tennessee State, Gallup served as a golf instructor at numerous golf schools along the eastern seaboard, including the Bill Skelley Golf School in Florida. Gallup has three years of playing experience on different tours in the country, including the LPGA Tour in 1997.

Gallup graduated from the University of Miami in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in business management. While attending school, she was a two-time All-American selection, ranking as high as third in the nation at one point in her collegiate career. As an amateur player, Gallup was ranked as high as sixth in the nation. She started her success early while she was attending high school, where she won the Women’s Western Open, the PGA Junior Championship, the USF&G Junior Championship and was ranked third in the nation by Golfweek Magazine. Gallup hopes to increase the competitiveness and success of the golf program at Southern Miss.

She is married to Greg Gallup, a native of Texas, and the couple has three children, Cameron, Gabrielle and Brodie.
