Julie Gallup is in her 13th season as the Head Coach of the Southern Miss women's golf program. The 2012-2013 campaign saw the team capture a record 3 Championships in a single season, winning the ULM Fred Marx Invitational, The UAB Beach Bash and The Lady Eagle Invitational.
During her 13 seasons at USM Gallup's teams have broken records in 18, 36 and 54 hole team score. She has coached individual players to school records in each of those same categories, most notably recent grad Virginia Espejo who now plays on the Ladies European Tour. Gallup has seen six Lady Eagles named to Conference USA's All-Conference teams. Coach's desire to have her athletes succeed extends beyond the course- during her tenure ten different Lady Eagles have been named to NGCA All-Scholar Team, each for multiple years. The current team, which numbers 11, boasts 2 on the President's List, 2 on the Dean's List and 6 of the remaining 7 on the AD's honor roll.
Gallup came to Southern Miss from East Tennessee State, where she was the head coach for the 1999-2000 seasons. While at ETSU, the team improved its average by over a dozen shots and finished in the top eight in every tournament.
A 1995 Graduate of the University of Miami, Gallup holds a bachelor's degree in business management. While at Miami, Gallup (then Julie Brand) was a two-time NCAA All-American selection. As an amateur she was ranked as high as sixth in the nation. As a Junior golfer Brand won 3 of 4 junior tournaments that were considered "Majors" in the summer of 1991; Women's Western Junior, the PGA Junior Championship, the USF&G Junior Championship. This feat saw her recognized by Sport's Illustrated Faces in the Crowd and led to her being ranked third in the nation by Golfweek Magazine. Gallup qualified for the LPGA tour on her first attempt where she competed during the 1997 season, among other accomplishments she carded a 67 at The 1997 Springfield Classic at The Rail Golf Course.
Gallup comes from a long line of golf professionals, her father John L. Brand III was a life member of the PGA of America, 2 of her brothers (John and Greg Brand) are PGA class "A" professionals and her maternal grandfather was a PGA golf professional. She is married to Greg Gallup, a native of Texas, who has also been a golf professional and now serves as Caddymaster at Fallen Oak Golf Club. The couple has three children, Cameron, Gabrielle and Brodie.
