Southern Miss Returns for Final Non-Conference Contest
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women’s basketball team returns to action Saturday, Dec. 30 for their final non-conference game of the 2017-18 campaign when it welcomes Blue Mountain College to Reed Green Coliseum at 4 p.m.
The Lady Eagles, coming off a 63-44 loss at Georgia Tech, will face the Lady Toppers for the first time in program history. Blue Mountain College, also coming off a loss, is 0-10 on the season.
Southern Miss will look to lean on the experience of Jayla King, Megan Brown and Shonte Hailes to end its current two game skid. King tallied a team-high 13 points and four steals at Georgia Tech, Brown poured in a career-high 17 points at Samford and Hailes currently leads Conference USA in assists, assists per game and ranks third for individual assists to turnover ratio.
Amber Landing has been a defensive anchor for the Lady Eagles averaging 2.25 blocks a game, 30 in the nation. Her 27 total blocks during the first 12 games rank her 23 in the country.
The Southern Miss defense is also forcing more than 17 turnovers a game, the fourth most amongst C-USA teams. The team’s 79 total steals ranks it third in the conference and its 16 assists per game are second best.
