Women's Basketball Hosts Central Arkansas

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball returns home to host Central Arkansas in non-conference action with a 12 p.m. tip time.

Southern Miss Preview
Southern Miss is coming off an 87-80 overtime road loss to UT-Martin on Dec. 18. Tanecka Carey and Jamierra Faulkner combined for 61 points as Faulkner netted a career-high 36 points and Carey had 25 points. Faulkner also grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
The trio of Carey, Faulkner and Jerontay Clemons continue to pace the Lady Eagles in scoring. Carey is tops at 17.7 points per game followed by Faulkner right behind at 17.1. Faulkner currently leads the league in assists (6.0 apg) and steals (4.5 spg). Clemons is averaging 11.6 points and paces the team in rebounds, averaging 8.1 per game.
Through 10 games, Southern Miss is averaging 63.5 points and 40.7 rebounds while shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 62.3 percent from the line.
Scouting Central Arkansas
UCA is 6-3 on the season following a 62-49 win at ULM on Dec. 20. Megan Herbert scored a game-high 22 points to lead UCA while Courtney Duever and Micah Rice scored 12 points each. Desiree' Rogers led the team with 11 rebounds while Duever added 10.
Herbert leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 17.3 points and 11.2 rebounds per game while Duever is next at 11.9 points per game.
The Sugar Bears are averaging 65.6 points and 44.2 rebounds per game while shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 68.7 percent from the line.
Southern Miss vs. Central Arkansas Series
This is the first meeting between the two teams.
Following the Central Arkansas game, Southern Miss will take several days for the Christmas Holiday and return to action on Dec. 31 when the Lady Eagles host crosstown foe William Carey in a noon tip as part of a double-header.
