Women's Basketball Travels to UTM

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball will conclude its road schedule for 2012 when the Lady Eagles travel to UTM for a 7 p.m. tip.

Southern Miss Preview
Southern Miss is coming off a 79-63 win over Loyola (LA) University, snapping a two-game losing streak. Tanecka Carey scored a game-high 27 points while Jamierra Faulkner recorded her first triple double with 16 points, 10 assists and 10 steals and Ance Celmina chipped in 15 points. Jerontay Clemons grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds to go with six steals. Faulkner joined the 1000-point club scoring her 1,000th point on her final field goal.
Three Lady Eagles continue to average in double figures led by Carey at 16.9 points per game followed by Faulkner at 15.0 and Clemons at 12.0 points. Clemons also paces the team in rebounds, averaging 8.2 per game.
Through nine games, Southern Miss is averaging 61.7 points and 41.1 rebounds while shooting 38.7 percent from the field and 60.1 percent from the line.
UTM is 4-8 on the season following a 73-71 overtime loss to Indiana State on Dec. 16. Heather Butler scored a game-high 26 points to lead UT Martin while Jasmine Newsome and Rickiesha Bryant scored 10 points each. Bryant also led the team with nine rebounds. Butler leads the team in scoring with a 21.9 point average while Newsome is right behind at 20.0 points per game. New some also leads the team in rebounding with a 5.0 per game average. The Skyhawks are averaging 69.2 points and 31.3 rebounds per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 72.6 percent from the line.
Southern Miss vs. UTM Series
This is the third meeting between the two teams in a series that began in 1999 ... The series record is tied at 1-1.
Following the UTM game, Southern Miss will host Central Arkansas on Dec. 22 in a 12 p.m. tip.
