Southern Miss Hosts Sam Houston State Friday Night
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women’s basketball team will play host to Sam Houston State Friday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m.
This is just the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs and this will be the third that comes in Reed Green Coliseum.
The Bearkats, coming off a 74-68 overtime win against Jackson State, bring a 3-3 record to the table. This will be the first Sam Houston State road game since their Nov. 10 opening day game at Arkansas and just its second road contest of the season.
Sam Houston State will battle a tenacious Southern Miss defense that holds its opponents, on average, to only 33 percent from the field. In their last outing, the Lady Eagles held Ole Miss to one field goal in the fourth quarter, including zero over the last nine minutes and 36 seconds.
Amber Landing’s presence has been a key factor in the tenacious Southern Miss defense. With 22 total blocks on the season, averaging 2.44 a game, she is leading Conference USA in both statistics. Jayla King has been leading the team on the offensive side of the court. King’s 17.2 points per game are the third most amongst C-USA players. She is one of 35 players to have at least four double-doubles on the year.
The game will serve as Military Appreciation Night. All active, retired, and reserved members of the military will receive free admission, as will their immediate family members, with proof of military ID. Donations to Toys for Tots will be accepted at the game and free admission will be given to those who donate. Santa will be in attendance and there will also be a chance to win a pair of Independence Bowl tickets.
Starting 30 minutes prior tip, fans can hear Josh West on the call by tuning in to WFOR 1400 AM The Score, listening through the Southern Miss Game Day App or watching on CUSA.TV.
