Women's Basketball Begins Two-Game Road Swing

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team takes to the road for the first of two contests, traveling to Little Rock, Ark., for a game against UALR on Dec. 4 in a 7:30 p.m. tip.

Southern Miss Preview
Southern Miss is coming off a 61-59 win over Mississippi State on Saturday. Tanecka Carey and Jerontay Clemons led the way with 17 points apiece while Jamierra Faulkner added a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists. Ance Celmina grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
A trio of Lady Eagles continues to average in double figures led by Carey at 16.2 points per game followed by Clemons and Faulkner at 14.0 and 13.2 points, respectively. Clemons also paces the team in rebounds, averaging 7.3 per game.
Through six games, Southern Miss is averaging 62.7 points and 41.7 rebounds while shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 60.2 percent from the line.
UALR is off to a 6-1 start this season following a 71-54 win over ULM on Dec. 1. Janette Merriex and Taylor Gault scored 16 points apiece while Kiera Clark grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Gault leads the team in scoring with 18.7 points per game average while Merriex is next at 10.0 points. Hannah Fohne is the team leader in rebounds at 7.0 per game. The Trojans are averaging 69.9 points and 41.4 rebounds per game while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 54.9 percent from the line.
Southern Miss vs. UALR Series
This is the 10th meeting between the two teams dating back to the 2004 season. UALR leads the overall series 6-3.
Following the UALR game, Southern Miss travels to Monroe, La., for a game against ULM on Dec. 9 2 p.m.
