Women's Basketball Sweeps Conference USA Player of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas - Southern Miss sweeps this week's Conference USA Women's Basketball Players of the Week accolades as senior Tanecka Carey and freshman Jerontay Clemons are honored for their performances last week. The duo led the team to victories against Florida A&M and Mississippi State. Carey averaged 28.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. She scored 39 points against FAM, while hitting seven 3-pointers, for her second career Player of the Week merit. Clemons accounted for 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game to earn her second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor.

Carey finished the week averaging 28.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game as the team picked up a pair of victories. She connected on 21-of-35 shots from the field for a 60 percent accuracy and shot 50 percent from behind the arc, hitting 8-of-16 treys. She also had two assists, three blocks and three steals on the week. Carey turned in a career-high 39 points against Florida A&M to go with four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. The 39-point performance marks the third-highest point total for a single game by a Golden Eagle. Carey also tied the school's single-game record for the most made 3-pointers with seven in the same game. She followed that performance by scoring a game-high 17 points in a two-point win over Mississippi State. She shot 46.2 percent from the field as she made 6-of-13 shots, and connected on 6-of-9 free throws for a 66.7 percent accuracy. This is Carey's first weekly honor of the season and second of her career (12-19-11).
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Jerontay Clemons, SOUTHERN MISS

Clemons finished the week averaging 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game in Southern Miss' wins against Florida A&M and Mississippi State. She also shot 47.8 percent from the field, hitting 11-of-23 shots, and scored six of eight points from the free throw line for a 75.0 percent accuracy. The guard scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds against Florida A&M. She dished out five assists and came up with four steals. Clemons then scored a game-high tying 17 points against Mississippi State to go with five rebounds, three assists and a steal. This is Clemons second straight Freshman of the Week honor.
