IRVING, Texas - Conference USA has named Tamara Jones of Southern Miss this week's Player of the Week, while Freshman of the Week accolades go to Leslie Vorpahl of Tulane. Jones averaged 26.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, including 41 points against UALR. Vorpahl led the Green Wave with 12.7 points per game while chipping in 3.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 0.7 steals per contest.
Jones finished the week averaging 26.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting 58.1 percent from the field including 45.5 percent from behind the arc. She connected on 91.7 percent from the line. Jones put up 41 points against UALR (11/19), the third most scored in a single game by a Southern Miss player and tying the sixth-best single game scoring performance in Conference USA. She was 14-of-23(60.9 percent) and hit all 10 of her free throws while grabbing 12 rebounds in recording a double-double. Despite getting into early foul trouble against Florid Gulf Coast, Jones managed to score 11 points and grab four rebounds in 16 minutes of play.
This is Jones' first career Player of the Week honor.
