Southern Miss Hits the Road for Season's First Away Contest
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball heads north to take on No. 7 Mississippi State tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Humphrey Coliseum for their first road game of the season. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+ through WatchESPN.com or the ESPN app.
This will be the 45th time that the Lady Eagles and Bulldogs have met since their first contest in 1976 and the 11th consecutive season that the two teams have battled.
"We've really had to focus in on us as a team because they're very good," said Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis. "They wouldn't have played in the national championship and be ranked in the top 10 if they weren't. Any time you get an opportunity to play a team like that there an aura with them. So, we've focused on things that we need to do to be able to be successful against them. We've got to focus on breaking the game up into five minute quarters, not focus on the score, lay it all on the line and win some five minute battles. If we do that, we'll have a real good opportunity."
The Lady Eagles, who have notched 22 wins the series, have faced a ranked Bulldog team for the past four straight seasons. Southern Miss has also only seen matchups with three other teams (Tulane, UAB and Memphis) more than Mississippi State in program history.
