Women's Basketball Hits the Road for the First Time, Traveling to Hampton

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team will hit the road for the first time this season when the Lady Eagles travel to Hampton for a 1 p.m. (CT) tip on Saturday.

The Lady Eagle contest can be heard on WHXB-FM 96.5 or at with Josh West, voice of the Lady Eagles, providing the play-by-play action.

Southern Miss (2-0) is coming off a 93-68 win over South Alabama on Tuesday. Three Lady Eagles combined for 73 points with Jamierra Faulkner leading the way with a game-high 27 points as Tamara Jones and Ashley Folsom scored 23 points each. Faulkner dished out 12 assists to go with seven steals. Southern Miss finished the game shooting 56.7 percent from the field.

Women's Basketball Falls to Hampton in Season Opener, 78-41
Hampton University (1-0) outscored Southern Miss (0-1) 26-3 over the final 7:48 in the first half while holding the Lady Eagles scoreless for a span of 6:37 in posting a 78-41 win over Southern Miss Friday afternoon.

Southern Miss uses balanced scoring attack as four Lady Eagles are averaging in double figures. Jones leads the quartet 22.0 points per game followed by Ashley Folsom at 19.5 points, Jamierra Faulkner at 17.5 and Brittanny Dinkins at 17.0 points. Two Eagles are averaging double-doubles as Jones is averaging 11.0 rebounds per game to lead the team. Faulkner is handing out 14.5 assists per game.

As a team the Lady Eagles are averaging 97.0 points and 42.0 rebounds per game while shooting 54.2 percent from the field and 66.0 percent from the line. Southern Miss is holding its opponents to 56 points on 36.7 percent shooting and allowing 33.0 rebounds per game.

Scouting the Hampton Lady Pirates
Hampton (1-0) is coming off a 64-37 win over St. Peter's last Sunday. Alyssa Bennett scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Malia Tate-DeFreitas had 15 points and Nicole Hamilton added 11.

Head Coach David Six returns eight letterwinners from last year's team that finished 28-6 and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Pirates return two starters. Bennett is the top scorer and rebounder with a 22.0 point per game average and 10.0 rebound per game. Six welcomes six newcomers.

Series Record: Southern Miss vs. Hampton
Hampton leads the overall series against Southern Miss, 2-1. This is the fourth meeting between the two teams dating back to 2001.
