Southern Miss Women’s Welcomes Familiar Foe to Reed Green
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women’s basketball team welcomes the Tulane Green Wave to Reed Green Coliseum Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
The two teams have met 65 times since 1977 and the Lady Eagles hold a 35-30 advantage in the series. The two team met last season, with Tulane besting Southern Miss 86-67, and Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis is looking for a different outcome this time around.
“Coach Lisa Stockton has done a tremendous job at Tulane,” McNelis said. “The players that they have are highly skilled and intelligent. They’re a team, as we always say, that’s not going to make a lot of mistakes. They’re skilled and fundamental in how they play. It’s always a challenge and it’s going to be a battle of two different styles of play. We’re going to be off to the races a little more and we need to minimize our mistakes to be successful against Tulane.”
McNelis and Stockton, who are no strangers to pitting their teams against each other, have met 28 times as coaches of their respective programs. The home team has had a significant upper hand in the meetings and wins 73 percent of the time. The Lady Eagles have a 23-6 all-time record against the Green Wave at home.
The contest will also serve to kick off the Battle of Interstate 59. The winner will take home a trophy and claim the 113 miles of interstate that separate the two Universities. Other promotions include Southern Miss rally towels for the first 300 fans, chances to win an athletic prize pack and a post-game poster signing with the team.
Tickets for the upcoming season can be purchased online at SouthernMissTickets.com, or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) as well as visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Center. With the pregame show starting 30 minutes prior tip, the game can be heard on WFOR 1400 AM The Score.
