Women’s Basketball Signs One More in Early Period
Almond, Shanie Edgecombe and Destiny Smith complete McNelis’ yield in the 2017 early signing period.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women’s basketball Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis announced an additional signee, Daishai Almond, for the 2018-19 season.
The Fort Valley, Ga., product prepped at Peach County High School, where she was a multi-sport athlete.
“We are excited to add Daishai to our recruiting class,” McNelis said. “Daishai is a combo guard that is skilled and has a superb feel for the game. She possesses an uncanny ability to score and distribute the ball. Unfortunately, she has experienced a knee injury and will be recovering during her senior season. We expect a full recovery by the time she arrives on campus in the summer of 2018.”
Almond was a 1,000 point career scorer for the Trojans and added All-Region honors to her resume. The five-foot-nine-inch guard was a two time MVP of the Middle Georgia All-Star Game and won her region in the 100 meter dash and triple jump.
Almond, Shanie Edgecombe and Destiny Smith complete McNelis’ yield in the 2017 early signing period. “We believe these three players will have an opportunity to help us continue the winning tradition at Southern Miss.” McNelis said. “They are winners in the classroom and on the court.”
