Women's Basketball Hosts West Alabama in Exhibition Game on Monday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team will open up exhibition play against West Alabama on Monday, Nov. 7 in Reed Green Coliseum at 7 p.m.

The Lady Eagles are coming off a 10-20 season and return only five letterwinners. Southern Miss was picked to finish ninth in Conference USA as voted on by the league coaches. Senior Rachel Vigers was named to the preseason All-Conference USA team. The Lady Eagles also return the league's top assists player in Jamierra Faulkner. Rounding out the returnees are Ewa Urbanowska, Danielle Johnson and Niesha Pierce. The Lady Eagles will get their first look at redshirt freshman Nitesha Pierce who missed all of last season recovering from a knee injury.

Coach Joye Lee-McNelis begins her eighth season and welcomes five newcomers led by junior college transfers Tanecka Carey of Jackson, Miss., Ance Celmina of Saldus, Latvia, and Sedreka Plummer of Lafayette, La. McNelis also welcomes two freshmen, Hannah Fletcher of Ponchatoula, La., and Wendy Miller of Palatka, Fla.

West Alabama finished with an 18-9 season overall record last year as Coach Craig Roden returns only three letterwinners from the 2011-12 season.

Southern Miss will open the regular season at home against cross town opponent William Carey on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
