Women's Basketball's Faulkner Appears on Senior CLASS Award® Watch List

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Senior guard Jamierra Faulkner has been recognized as one of 30 women's basketball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court were selected as candidates for the 2013-14 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate basketball. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Southern Miss' Faulkner led the league in scoring with an average of 19.0 points per game and in assists, dishing out 205 on the year. The 5-6 senior guard also averaged 3.3 steals and 3.9 rebounds per game. Her season totals ranked her 32nd in scoring, 11th in assists and in steals nationally. Faulkner became the all-time leader in assists while moving into ninth on the all-time scoring list and sixth in steals for the Golden Eagles. She also currently ranks among the conference's all-time top 15 in four categories: assists (6th/592); assists/game (3rd/6.6); steals (13th/261) and steals per game (7th/2.9). A West Palm Beach, Fla., native, Faulkner was an easy selection for the C-USA preseason team given her 205 assists and 101 steals last season. At the conclusion of the 2012-13 season, she earned the team's Most Valuable Player Award for the second time in as many years in addition to the offensive award

Faulkner is majoring in interdisciplinary studies major with concentrations in sport management and family studies.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Men's Final Four® and NCAA Women's Final Four®.

Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate.
