Getting to Know the 2017-18 Lady Eagles: Alarie Mayze
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss sophomore Alarie Mayze is a combo guard that hails from Arlington, Texas.
Before coming to the Lady Eagles, Mayze spent the 2016-17 season with New Mexico Junior College. She appeared in 27 contests for the Thunderbirds, starting 12 of them, and averaged 11.3 points per game. Mayze also shot .514 from the floor and snagged 4.3 rebounds a game.
“Defense is my strongest trait,” Mayze said. “I also get steals, drive the lane and shoot 15-foot jumpers.”
Though they’re big shoes to fill, Mayze hopes to fill in some of the gap that was left by the departure of Brittanny Dinkins.
“Coach has told me that I need to rebound, run the point guard a little bit to help out and really rely on my strengths.”
