Women's Basketball Signee Named Mississippi's Miss Basketball

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss women's basketball signee Jerontay Clemons has been named Miss Basketball as Mississippi's top girls' player for 2012.
The Coldwater, Miss., native averaged 30.1 points and 12 rebounds in leading Coldwater to the Class 1A state championship game. She also was named to the Clarion-Ledger's first team all-state team.
The 5-foot-8 guard is the first Coldwater player to be named Miss Basketball. She scored a career-high 54 points against Holly Springs as a sophomore and scored 40 points in her final game as a Lady Cougar in the championship game, a 74-69 loss.
Earlier this month, Clemons was named most valuable player in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Classic, scoring a record-tying 35 points in leading the Mississippi All-Stars to a 94-91 victory over the Alabama All-Stars.
During the postseason, she averaged 38.3 points in eight games including a season-best 52 in a division tournament title game loss to eventual 1A champion H.W. Byers.
