HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team returns to postseason play for the first since 2008 when the Lady Eagles host Lamar in the opening round of the WNIT on Thursday at 7 p.m.
This is the first postseason since 2008 when the Lady Eagles played in the WNIT. It marks the 12th time for Southern Miss to play in postseason.

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (26-6) are coming off an 84-55 loss in the championship game of the C-USA Tournament. Senior Jamierra Faulkner posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 assists while earning all-tournament honors. Tamara Jones added 15 points and Jerontay Clemons chipped in 12.
Faulkner continues to lead the team in scoring and assists, averaging 17.7 points and 8.5 assists per game. Jones is next at 14.5 points and a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game while Clemons is averaging 11.3 points.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 78.6 points and 39.4 rebounds per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 68.6 percent from the line.
Lamar (18-12) is coming off 61-60 loss to Northwestern State in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament. Gia Ayers led a quartet of Cardinals with 14 points followed by Alice Robinson with 13. Caroline Adesulu and JaMeisha Edwards chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively. Robinson pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.
Ayers leads a balanced attack with 6.1 points with Dominique Edwards next at 14.6 points and a team-best 8.0 rebounds. JaMeisha Edwards adds 12.1 points and Shauna Long chips in 10.6 points. Lamar is averaging 71.3 points and 37.3 rebounds per game while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 65.0 percent from the line.
Coach Robin Harmony is in her first season at Lamar as head coach.
Series Record: Southern Miss vs. Lamar
This is the fifth meeting between the two teams. The series is tied at 2-2. Southern Miss won the first two meetings, while Lamar has won the last two.
The winner tonight's game will play the winner of Mississippi State and Tulane.
