Lady Eagles Enter 2013 Conference USA Championship as the No. 10 Seed

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss will bring a No. 10 seed into the postseason league tournament after finishing the season with a 6-10 C-USA record. The Lady Eagles will face No. 7 seed Memphis at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13 in Tulsa Convention Center.
The Lady Eagles are making their 17th appearance in the 18-year history of the event and have posted a 10-16 record overall. This is the third time in the tournament that Southern Miss and Memphis will face each other.
Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime to Memphis, 80-74
Memphis outscored Southern Miss 14-8 in overtime in taking an 80-74 win over the Lady Eagles on Thursday night in Reed Green Coliseum.

Southern Miss Preview
Southern Miss is 14-15 overall and 6-10 in the league after a 75-66 win over East Carolina on Mar. 7. Tanecka Carey netted a game-high 23 points while Jamierra Faulkner was next with 20 points. Niesha Pierce scored 10 points to go with a team-best six assists and four steals. Ance Celmina was the top rebounder with nine boards.
Faulkner leads the team in scoring with an 18.8 point per game average with Tanecka Carey next at 15.0 and Jerontay contributes 10.0 points per game. Clemons also leads the team in rebounding with 6.7 rebounds per game while Celmina is next with a 6.3 per game average. As a team, USM is shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 62.4 percent from the line while averaging 63.4 points and 37.9 rebounds per outing.
Memphis enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed, posting a 17-13 overall while finishing 8-8 in league play after a 63-53 win over Marshall. Ariel Hearn led the team with 17 points while Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir and Asianna Fuqua-Bey finished with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Nicole Dickson leads a trio of Tigers in scoring with 18.9 points per game followed by Heard with 13.5 points and Abdul-Qaadir at 10.7. Dickson also leads the team in rebounding at 7.1 rebounds per game.
Memphis is averaging league best 69.1 points per game on 41.2 percent shooting from the field. The Tigers are averaging 41.9 rebounds per outing and shooting 66.9 percent from the line.
Southern Miss vs. Memphis Series Record
This is the 56th meeting between the two teams in one of the longer running series dating back to the 1976-77 season. Memphis leads the overall series 31-24 after claiming wins in both meetings during the regular season including an overtime win in Hattiesburg. This is the third time in the Conference USA Championship that the two teams have faced each other and the fifth time overall in a league postseason tournament. Memphis is 3-1 against the Eagles in tournament play. The two teams played in the championship game of the Metro Tournament in 1985 and again in the semifinals in 1987. This is the third meeting in the C-USA Tournament and Memphis has won all three meetings.
