Southern Miss Starts Tournament Action against UTEP
FRISCO, Texas – The No. 8 seeded Southern Miss women’s basketball team kicks off the 2018 Conference USA Basketball tournament with a matchup against the No. 9 seeded UTEP Miners tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT. The game, being played at The Star is Frisco, Texas, will be streamed on Facebook.
The Lady Eagles won the only meeting between the teams this season, 60-53, when the Miners came to Hattiesburg. Southern Miss enters the contest with a three game series win streak, the longest in the series since the two teams first met during the 1992-1993 season.
Southern Miss C-USA tournament history against UTEP was last added to in 2014 when the Lady Eagles topped UTEP 84-70. The win is the only victory that the Lady Eagles have notched against the Miners in three total C-USA tournament meetings.
In her last outing, Jalya King became the 27th Lady Eagle to join the 1,000 point club with her 21 points against FIU. King has the opportunity to move up the all-time scoring list with at least one more game to play in her senior year. Her career total, 1,011, puts her six points away from passing Pam McCoy (1978-81) at 26th and 15 points shy of eclipsing Shirley Jones-Hill (1977-81) at 25th.
