Jayla King Earns Second Team All-Conference Honors
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss redshirt senior Jayla King earned Second Team All-Conference honors for the 2017-2018 basketball season Monday morning.
The Pensacola, Fla. product averaged 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds each outing this season. Her averaged placed her as Conference USA’s seventh leading scorer and 10th leading rebounder. King marked a career-high 30 points against Mississippi Valley, one of only eight C-USA players to score 30 or more points in a single game during the year.
In the Lady Eagles’ season finale against FIU, King became the 27th Lady Eagle to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark and can climb further up the all-time career points list during the 2018 C-USA Tournament. King is the seventh Lady Eagle to earn C-USA second team distinction and the 15th Southern Miss player to garner the merit.
King will leave Southern Miss ranked ninth in field goals made, attempting the 10th most field goals, converting the sixth most free throws, grabbing the seventh most rebounds, owning the 10th best rebounding average and swiping the eighth most steals.
The Lady Eagles begin C-USA championship play against UTEP on Wednesday, March 7 at 11 a.m. in Frisco, Texas.
