Southern Miss Continues Season with Game in Sunshine State
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women’s basketball team continues its season tomorrow, Feb. 23, with a 6 p.m. CT match up against FAU in the Lady Eagles’ final road contest of the 2017-2018 campaign
Seeding is on the line for the Conference USA Tournament for both teams as the Lady Eagles sit one game ahead of the Owls in the standings. FAU holds the offensive upper hand at a mark of 69.6 points per game, but Southern Miss’ steady defense is holding opponents to 63.7 points a game, compared to the Owl’s 69.2 points allowed per game. The Lady Eagles’ also own the conference’s second best shooting percentage, a mark of .448 percent, and FAU’s completes only .381 percent of its shots.
FAU’s boasts the league’s fifth leading scorer and ninth leading rebounder in Sasha Dedeno. She averages 17.2 points and 7.6 boards a game. Southern Miss will need to have consistent production from Florida natives Jayla King and Respect Leaphart to continue its win-streak against the Owls. In four matchups FAU has never topped Southern Miss.
