Women's Basketball Travels to East Carolina

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team travels to East Caroline for a Sunday tilt with the start time schedule for 12 p.m. central time.
Southern Miss Preview
Southern Miss (12-11, 4-6) is coming off a 75-52 loss to UCF and looks to snap a three-game losing streak. Jamierra Faulkner poured in a game-high 31 points while Tanecka Carey chipped in 11 points. Jerontay Clemons grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds. The Lady Eagles shot 53.8 percent in the second half.
Faulkner continues to lead the team in scoring with a 18.4 per game average while Carey is next at 14.7. Jerontay Clemons leads the team in rebounding with 6.7 rebounds per game while contributing 9.4 points per game.
As a team, the Lady Eagles are averaging 62.7 points on 39.6 percent shooting from the field. The Black and Gold is averaging 39.0 rebounds and shooting 62.8 percent from the charity stripe.
Scouting East Carolina
East Carolina is 17-6 overall and 7-3 in league play following an upset win over top seeded SMU on Thursday night. Celeste Stewart scored a game-high 26 points to go with five assists while Whitny Edwards and Britny Edwards added 14 and 11 points, respectively. Britny Edwards led the team with nine rebounds.
The Pirates average in double figures led by Whitny Edwards at 12.0 points followed by Stewart at 11.7 and Britny Edwards at 10.5 points per game averages. Britny also leads the team with 8.9 rebounds per game.
East Carolina is averaging 64.4 points and 40.9 rebounds per game while shooting 38.9 from the field and 65.2 percent from the line. The Pirates lead the league in steals at 12.5 per game and turnover margin at +5.7 per game.
Southern Miss vs. East Carolina Series Record
This is the 20th meeting between the two teams dating back to 2002 season. East Carolina leads the series 11-8 as the Pirates won the initial meeting. The teams have played two overtime games with Southern Miss winning both. The teams split the series during the regular season with each winning at home.
Following the East Carolina game, the Lady Eagles returns home to begin a two-game homestand when Southern Miss hosts Memphis on Feb. 21.
