MIAMI, Fla. – The Southern Miss Women’s basketball team (16-9, 8-5), coming off of a conference sweep of UTSA and UTEP, will face the Panthers of FIU (5-18, 3-9) on Thursday night at 6 p.m. CT.
“FIU will stretch you out,” said assistant head coach Kiley Hill, who is acting head coach in Joye Lee-McNelis’ absence. “They have a dominate post player inside, Janka Hegedus, she’s very versatile and she does a fantastic job. For us, we just need to stay in our game, worry about ourselves and try to contain and disrupt some of the pieces they’re trying to accomplish. Rebound is always a key for us. It gives us extra possessions on the offensive end because sometimes we go through some serious droughts. Defensively, we have to limit their second and third opportunities.”
The Lady Eagles grabbed over 40 rebounds in back-to-back games against UTSA and UTEP for the first time since FIU/FAU last year. Southern Miss is 11-3 this season when they out rebound their opponent.
The Panthers and Lady Eagles have met eight times in program history and the all-time record is 6-2 in favor of Southern Miss.
Lady Eagle fans can hear Josh West on the radio broadcast for the game on WFOR 1400 AM at 5:30 p.m. CT.
