HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss track and field sprinter Cra'Vorkian Carson and women's basketball guard Brittny Norris have been voted as the SAAC Student-Athletes of the Week.
Carson is currently Conference USA's top performer in the 60m after running a 6.71 at last week's Jaguar Invitational. The Golden Eagles took home the team title in a field that included 16 other schools, including Georgia Tech, Louisiana Tech and UAB. Carson is a junior transfer from Meridian CC and is a native of Tylertown, Miss.
Norris’ 35 point explosion against Marshall is the seventeenth output of 35 or more points in school history and the first since the 2014-2015 season. Thirty-three of the senior’s 35 point came in the second half, the most in a half by a Lady Eagle.
Coming into the contest Norris was averaging 4.2 points per game. She exploded for 12-of-17 shooting, 7-of-12 from the three-point line, and connected on four of her six shots from the charity stripe. Norris also didn’t turn the ball over once in the Feb. 2 game as Southern Miss overcame a 20-2 deficit to defeat.
The Dallas native hit her last three of the game came with 17 second seconds remaining and effectively iced the game for the Lady Eagles, putting them up by three. Twelve of the 22 points that Southern Miss scored in the last 4:57 of the game were from Norris.
