Women's Basketball Set to Host No. 21 Middle Tennessee

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team is set to host No. 21 Middle Tennessee on Feb. 5 in a 7 p.m. tip.

The Lady Eagle contest can be heard on WHXB-FM 96.5 or at SouthernMiss.com with Josh West, voice of the Lady Eagles providing play-by-play analysis with legendary coach Kay James as color analyst.

The game has been designated as First Responders Night. Free admission for all First Responders with ID. Also the first 100 Fans receive a Southern Miss T-shirt. In addition, there will be free pizza for the first 300 Students. Also it is Oak Grove Night. $2 tickets for all Oak Grove School System students, faculty and staff with ID.

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (15-5, 4-3) are coming off a 74-58 win at Rice. Sophomore Jerontay Clemons led the team with 15 points while Jamierra Faulkner and Voche' Martin added 12 points each. Clemons also pulled down a team-best nine rebounds as Faulkner dished out five assists and had three steals.

Faulkner currently leads the team in scoring and assists, averaging 16.4 points and 8.3 assists per game. Tamara Jones is next at 14.0 points and a team-best 6.2 rebounds per game while Clemons is averaging 11.3 points. The Lady Eagles are averaging 78.4 points and 39.8 rebounds per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 66.3 percent from the line.

Scouting the Blue Raiders
No. 21 Middle Tennessee (18-3, 7-0) comes into the game ranked No. 21 after moving up four spots in the AP Poll and jumping into the USA Today Coaches' Poll. The Blue Raiders is coming off a 67-57 win at Tulsa last weekend. Ebony Rowe led the team with 18 points and 15 rebounds while KeKe Stewart chipped in 12 points.

Middle Tennessee returns nine letterwinners including three starters from last season's team that finished 25-8. Rowe leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 21.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. Stewart is averaging 9.4 points. As a team, Middle Tennessee is averaging 67.7 points and 40.8 rebounds per game while shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 64.7 percent from the line.

Coach Rick Insell is in his ninth season at Middle Tennessee as head coach.

Series Record: Southern Miss vs. Middle Tennessee
This is only the third meeting between the two teams and the series is even at 1-1. The first time the two teams met was Dec. 15, 1977 with the Blue Raiders winning in overtime. The Lady Eagles played Middle Tennessee again on Dec. 17, 1979, in Hattiesburg with a win.
