Southern Miss Prepares for Sunday Showdown with Marshall
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women’s basketball team’s last contest of the week comes tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Marshall in Reed Green Coliseum. The Thundering Herd (7-14, 1-7) come to Hattiesburg after falling 67-61 at Charlotte.
The Lady Eagles are 14-8 all-time against Marshall, but the Herd left with a 63-53 win the last time it was in the Hub City. Southern Miss stole one against Marshall when the team’s met last season in Huntington, W.Va. Brittny Norris came off the bench and dropped 35 points, 32 of them coming in the second half of the game. Coming into the game the Dallas, Texas native had averaged 4.2 points. The Norris flurry, combined with Brittanny Dinkins’ 22 total points, drove a 19 point comeback in the Cam Henderson Center and the Southern Miss would top Marshall 82-78.
Though defeated 62-56 by Rice last time out, Jayla King poured in a game-high 27 points. The game in Houston was the third 20 point game for Jayla King has notched this season and the second most points she’s tallied in her career.
