Bowling Green, Ky. – The Southern Miss Lady Eagle basketball team (14-8, 6-4) will meet with the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers (16-6, 8-2) Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. CT.
Head coach Coach McNelis said that last night’s game was a confidence booster, especially for the Lady Eagle bench players.
“Obviously our win last night built some confidence in some of our reserve players,” McNelis said. “Our starters, especially our post players didn’t have a good game, but players like Birttny Norris, Tajanay Veiga and Respect Leaphart did a great job of coming in and making a big difference for us.”
Western Kentucky currently sits in a three-way tie for first atop the Conference USA standings. This will be the fifth meeting all-time between the two teams. The series is tied at 2-2. Southern Miss’ last win in E.A. Diddle Arena came in the 2014-2015 season, the Lady Toppers first season in C-USA.
“Western Kentucky has a lot of three ball weapons. When you add those to the four players that they already have it’s unbelievable what they are capable of doing. They have tremendous offensive fire power.”
The Lady Toppers lead the league in scoring average and beat opponents by an average of 13.8 points. WKU is also the highest scoring team in the league, averaging 75.4 points a game.
Lady Eagle fans can hear Josh West on the radio broadcast for the game on WFOR 1400 AM at 1:30 p.m. CT.
