IRVING, Texas - Conference USA has named Kayla Thornton of UTEP as its Women's Basketball Player of the Week, while Southern Miss' Brittanny Dinkins was voted C-USA Freshman of the Week by a select panel. Thornton averaged 23.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and1.5 blocks to help lead UTEP to a pair of C-USA victories over Southern Miss and UTSA last week. Dinkins averaged 12.0 points and 5.5 rebounds to go with 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals against UTEP and East Carolina last week.
Dinkins averaged 12.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game to go with 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in Southern Miss 1-1 performance last week. The rookie also connected on 62.5 (5-of-8) percent of her 3-point field goals and 75.0 (3-of-4) percent from the free throw line. She finished with 11 points and six rebounds in an 86-85 overtime loss at UTEP Wednesday. Dinkins followed that performance with 13 points and five rebounds in an 82-80 overtime win against East Carolina Saturday. Her 3-pointer against ECU put the Lady Eagles ahead, 80-79, with 54 seconds remaining. This is Dinkins' second C-USA Freshman of the Week honor as she picked up the first one of the 2013-14 season on Nov. 11.
