Southern Miss Challenges Charlotte at Home
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team (11-7, 3-2) will challenge Charlotte (6-12, 2-3) in Reed Green Coliseum Thursday, Jan. 25, at 6 p.m.
With three straight conference wins under its belt, the Lady Eagles will look to avenge its 66-56 loss that the 49ers dished out on Jan. 4 in Charlotte to open Conference USA play earlier in the season. Four Southern Miss players, Shonte Hailes, Jayla King, Megan Brown and Respect Leaphart, are all averaging double-figures during the current win streak and Hailes, the reigning C-USA Player of the Week, paces the team in scoring at 21.7 points per game.
Since the 2013-2014 season, Southern Miss is 7-1 in regular season rubber matches after dropping the first contest. In that same span, the Lady Eagles have only lost seven conference home games.
Southern Miss currently sits in a four way tie for fourth in the conference standings, but sits atop the statistical rankings in field goal percent defense and is second is field goal percentage, defensive rebound totals, rebounding margin, assists and offensive rebound percentage. The Black and Gold are holding their opponents to a stingy field goal percentage of .365.
The Lady Eagles' tenth home contest of the year will serve as Student, Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. The first 150 students will receive free pizza and a replica Southern Miss basketball drink koozie. Students in attendance will also be eligible to win exclusive prizes that will be given away throughout the game. All USM faculty and staff can receive up to four free tickets at the door after presenting their Southern Miss ID.
Fans can watch the game on CUSA.TV or listen to Josh West on the broadcast via The Score 1400 AM or the Southern Miss Game Day App starting 30 minutes before tipoff.
