HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team plays its second-straight game on the road when the Lady Eagles travel to Houston for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday.

The Southern Miss women's basketball team shot a dismal 28.6 percent from the field including a 9.1 percent from behind the arc in dropping its second straight Conference USA game with a 56-49 loss to Houston on Sunday.

Southern Miss Preview
Southern Miss (10-7, 2-2) is coming off a 62-57 win over UCF on Sunday, snapping a two-game losing streak. Jamierra Faulkner led the way with a game-high 25 points while Tanecka Carey scored 14 points. Teri Berry had a team-best six rebounds. The Lady Eagles pocketed 13 steals.
Faulkner leads a trio of players in double figure scoring with 17.3 points per game followed by Carey with 15.8 points and Clemons at 10.4 points. Clemons also paces the team in rebounds, averaging 6.8 per game.
Southern Miss is averaging 62.9 points and 39.2 rebounds while shooting 39.6 percent from the field and 62.9 percent from the line. The Lady Eagle defense allows 62.1 points on 38.6 percent shooting from the field. The team is forcing its opponents into 21.1 turnovers per game while coming up with 10.6 steals per game.
Houston brings an 8-8 overall record and 2-1 in league play following a 71-63 win over Marshall on Jan. 20. Porsche Landry scored a game-high 24 points followed by Marissa Ashton with double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds and Te'onna Campbell also added a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Houston finished with 15 steals.
Landry leads the team in scoring with 17.7 points per game while Yasmee Thompson paces the team in rebounding with 9.6 boards per game.
The Cougars are averaging 65.9 points and 42.7 rebounds per game while shooting 37.4 percent from the field and 61.6 percent from the line.
Southern Miss vs. Houston Series Notes
This will be the 24th meeting between the two teams dating back to 1992. Houston leads the overall series 12-11 against the Lady Eagles. Southern Miss won the first four meetings between the two teams. USM has won three of the last five meetings, but Houston has won the last two meetings. However, Houston has won the last eight meetings in Houston.
Following the Houston game, Southern Miss returns home to host Rice on Sunday in a 2 p.m. start.
