Lady Eagle Basketball Team Falls to Louisiana Tech, 83-61
Southern Miss women's basketball team opened 2011 year with an 83-61 loss at Louisiana Tech Sunday afternoon and fell to 5-8 overall.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team hits the road to open Conference USA play at Louisiana Tech on Wednesday, Jan. 8 in a 6:30 p.m. tip. This is the conference opener for both teams.

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (11-2) are coming off a 90-49 win over cross-town foe William on Jan. 4. Five Lady Eagles scored in double figures led by Jerontay Clemons with a team-best 18 points, Jamierra Faulkner added a double-double with 13 points and 12 assists while Ashley Folsom, Brittanny Dinkins and Tamara Jones chipped in 13, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Faulkner had a team-best seven rebounds and five steals. Southern Miss finished the game shooting 56.3 percent from the field.

Jones currently leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Faulkner is next at 13.5 points. Faulkner is dishing out 9.0 assists per game to go with 2.8 steals. The Lady Eagles are averaging 79.8 points and 40.5 rebounds per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 67.5 percent from the line.

Scouting Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech (5-8) comes into the game following an 80-52 loss at Texas A&M on Dec. 28. Whitney Frazier scored a team-best 15 points to go with 11 rebounds as JaQuan Jackson chipped in 14 points. Louisiana Tech returns seven letterwinners including three starters from last season's team that finished 14-17.

Frazier leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 16.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Chrisstasia Walter and Jackson chip in 13.7 and 13.2 points per game. As a team, LA Tech is averaging 64.5 points and 41.0 rebounds per game while shooting 36.9 percent from the field and 68.4 percent from the line.

Coach Teresa Weatherspoon is in her sixth season at her alma mater as head coach.
