"First of all, I would like to say congratulations to Middle Tennessee. They really stepped up and played a heck of a basketball game. They played their best and I am really happy for them. On the flip side, our Lady Eagles came in win this thing, and that was our goal, that we set way back in August, to win a Conference Championship. We talked about Championship culture and we developed a championship coach with the seventh youngest team in the country. As far as our coaching staff, we are proud as to what we have been able to accomplish this year as a team. We have come so far, when you have nine new players you don't know exactly which way to go. I believe that it is the character of the players and the coaching staff to be successful. Jamierra (Faulkner) is one of the best players that have ever played at Southern Miss and one of the best players that have ever played in Conference USA. She scored her 2000th point yesterday, she leads Conference USA record sheets in steals and assists, and the same at Southern Miss. She's a very, very special player and she has taken on challenges where her teammates have not been able to play."
Offensive rebounds and turnovers...
"We gave up a lot of offensive rebounds in the first half. In the first half they had three offensive boards counting for nine points and 12 points off of offensive rebounds. So at the half they had nine points off of offensive boards and 12 in offensive rebounds, it's basically their game. We felt like in the first half we stuck to our game plan, but again they just came rolling out the second half. We have been an offensive team all year and felt like we would have a run in the second half, but Middle Tennessee did not let that happen."
What's on your mind after the loss?...
"Of course I'm upset we didn't win. But it's like coach said, our season isn't over. We'll be playing again, but not sure when."
Head Coach Rick Insell
"What a game. We didn't expect it to be that blown out, but once we get on a roll, we're like that. They were very coachable, some of the things we went over today and we went out and executed it. Their press bothered us a little bit, but I think we got more transition points against their press and really than we did against our set offense. What we did, is attack the basket to score, instead of attacking that press and to set our offense up."
On winning 14 tournament titles in program history six in OVC, seven in the Sun Belt and now one for one in C-USA - what does it say about the program in all three conferences?...
"The consistency of course. I said it the other night, I feel like Middle Tennessee is one of the top 20 programs in country. We're not the best program in the country, but we're in the top 20. If you look at what we did in the NCAA Tournament and how many times we've been there. We're real proud of what our program stands for, and proud of our university and community."
On being disrespected - is that put to bed now and finished that off?...
"I would say so. We were the newcomers in the conference and so we knew we had to prove ourselves, just like anyone else. I think this put the icing on the cake and got the respect we deserve in this conference."
It turned into a blow out, did you and your teammates have a chip on your shoulder with the teams only loss in conference?...
"Yes, we did. Coach wanted us to attack them more than they attacked us; go after every dead ball and win that way."
