Megan Brown Ties Career-High in Loss at LA Tech
RUSTON, La. – Megan Brown paced the Lady Eagles with 21 total points, tying her career-high, as Southern Miss fell 89-57 at LA Tech.
This is the ninth game in a row that Brown has recorded double-figures in the score book, the longest streak by any player this season and the eighth game of the 2017-2018 campaign that the Slidell, La. native has led the team in scoring, doing it nine total times in her Southern Miss career. This is also just the third time that the redshirt junior has eclipsed the 20 point mark.
The Lady Techsters buried 14 three-pointers, the most the Lady Eagles have allowed this season and the most since Southern Miss gave up 15 against UT-Martin during the 2012-2013 season.
LA Tech started the game on a 10-0 run, Southern Miss not sinking its first basket until 7:20 in the first quarter. The Lady Eagles responded with a run of its own, bring themselves within two, 13-11, with less than four minutes to play in the first frame. Another Lady Techster 10-0 run closed the first 10 minutes of play, creating an 11 point deficit that LA Tech would push to 32 at the end of the foray.
Molly Brown added her named to the box score with eight points, six coming from beyond the arc, Kyle Felton, Allie Kennedy and Respect Leaphart chipped in five points apiece and Amber Landing logged four points. Felton led the team in rebounds with a career-high six boards.
Southern Miss splits its time away from Hattiesburg this coming week with a contest at FAU on Friday, Feb. 23 and a home matchup with UTEP on Sunday Feb. 25. The contest in the Sunshine State against the Owls with tip at 7 p.m. ET and the matchup in Hattiesburg against the Miners will start at 2 p.m. CT.
