April 18, 2017

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Baseball's Dylan Burdeaux and softball's Tori Dew have been voted by their Southern Miss student-athlete peers as the latest SAAC Players of the Week for their recent performances.

Dylan Burdeaux, a senior out of West Monroe, La., hit safely in all four games during the week to extend his hitting streak to 14 games, establishing his career-long mark. He notched at least two hits in three of four games and now has a team-high of 21 multi-hit contests, while his three RBI night in the series opener against Rice gave him his team-best tying 10th multi-RBI affair.

He has played 202 career games for the Golden Eagles and made 201 starts, having hit in the leadoff spot in the lineup for the last 98 games since the start of the 2016 season. Over his 14 game hitting streak, Burdeaux is hitting .456 (31x68) with 17 runs, eight doubles, two home runs and 14 RBI. He has walked five times and only fanned four times. He is six-of-eight in stolen base attempts and is fielding .992 in 119 chances. He has 12 multi-hit games during this current hitting streak.

Dew led the way for the Southern Miss offense last week, notching seven hits in 13 at bats and registering eight RBI as the Golden Eagles went 4-1.

In the Golden Eagles' series opener against UTSA, Dew posted her first triple of the season and went 3-for-3 with five RBI (tied for most in 2017 C-USA contests). The Stonewall, Mississippi, native leads Southern Miss with 11 doubles (T-fourth among C-USA leaders) and ranks third with 37 hits this season. Her .538 batting average last week raised her overall season average to .282.

The softball team next plays at Alabama on Wednesday before leaving Friday for another pivotal C-USA series at WKU.
