Norman Invited to Olympic Training Center
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss’ standout track and field performer Cedric Norman has been invited to practice at the Olympic Training Center in San Diego, Calif., for two weeks, in preparation for the 2004 U. S. Olympic Track and Field Trials.
Norman leaves on Thursday and will stay in San Diego until he goes to the Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif., July 9-18.
“I feel good about the opportunity to go out to the Olympic Training Center to train,” Norman said. “There will be no distractions, and I’ll have a chance to focus on my performance for two weeks, leading up to the Olympic Trials.”
Southern Miss Head Track and Field Coach Wayne Williams is delighted at the invitation. “This is a real positive for the Southern Miss program because not many people are designated as Olympic hopefuls,” said Williams. “Cedric will receive high quality coaching and attention to aid his performance and give him an edge going into the trials.”
Norman’s season-best jump of 7’6” is currently third on the 2004 U.S. performance list.
