Golden Eagle Tracksters Compete At The NCAA National Meet

Cedric Norman heads into the finals after posting a height of 7'1.50" in preliminaries

AUSTIN, TexasSeven Golden Eagle track and field performers competed at the 2004 NCAA National Outdoor Championship at Myers Stadium, but only the 4x100-meter relay team had the opportunity to compete before heavy rain and lightening suspended competition.


The relay team of Tanika Liburd, Raquel Washington, Tori Wells and Angela Johnson turned a time of 46.19, posting the second best time of the year, but it wasn’t enough to advance to the finals scheduled for Friday.


On Thursday, Jeb Meschke recorded a throw of 205’8” in the javelin and failed to advance to the finals after finishing 23rd overall.


In the women’s long jump, Liburd finished in a tie for 17th overall in the competition with a jump of 19’11.75”.  Marvin Lucas had three foul attempts in the long jump and did not record a legal jump.


Cedric Norman advanced to the finals of the men’s high jump with a jump of 7’1.50”.  The finals are set for Saturday at 7 p.m.  Norman will compete against 13 other athletes.
