Riley Competes in 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
HATTIESBURG, Miss.--For the second-straight year, Southern Miss will send an athlete to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 30-June 2. Wenston Riley will be one of 388 athletes competing at the 2001 Track Championships at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore.
Riley is coming off his best season as a Golden Eagle that included a new school record and an automatic qualifying time in the 110-meter high hurdles at 13.71. He successfully defended his Conference USA title in the 110-meter high hurdles in the 2001 C-USA Championship in Tampa, Fla. Riley competed in seven outdoor meets and finished first in five meets and second in the two others.
Two other track performers posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks, Emmanuel Osabutey in the long jump and Hope Sinclair in the heptathlon. The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered were filled from the descending-order list of provisional qualifiers.
