Golden Eagle Track and Field Performer Bruner Named Verizon Academic All-District
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior track and field performer Bryan Bruner has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District IV University Division Men's Track and Field/Cross Country team as voted on by the district’s sports information directors. Bruner, a first-team selection, advances to the national ballot, where voting will take place this month for academic All-America status.
Bruner, a native of Baytown, Texas, owns the school records in the shot put for indoor and outdoor track and field. He recently received the Conference USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in track and field. He posted seven top three finishes, including five first-place finishes in meets during the year. He had a season-best throw in shot at 55’5.50”. He posted four top four finishes in discus, including a season-best throw of 160’4”. He set a school record in indoor shot at 56’ and set school record in weight throw at 50’4.50”. He was a Dean’s list scholar for five semesters, and a member of Athletic Director’s Honor Roll every semester. He was named a Conference USA Academic Medalist in track. He was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll two years.
