Golden Eagle Track and Field Teams Conclude 2002 Season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Southern Miss track and field teams concluded the outdoor season at the 2002 Conference USA Championship in Louisville. The Lady Eagles finished ninth with 50 points, while the men's team finished 11th with 42.50 points.

Houston captured the women's title with 144 points followed by Marquette with 119, South Florida 85.50, TCU 65, Louisville 64, Tulane 61, East Carolina 53, Cincinnati 52, Southern Miss 50, Memphis 48, DePaul 35.50, Charlotte 29 and UAB 10.

Prudence Reid led the Lady Eagles finishing fourth and sixth in the 100 and 200 meters, respectively. Reid posted a season-best time of 11.59 in the 100 and 24.69 in the 200 meters. Oby Amadi took eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.83, while Janet Rono was fifth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:36.84. Tamara Dayes finished seventh in the shot with a throw of 45'3". The 4x100 meter relay team was fourth with a time of 45.82.

On the men's side, TCU finished first in the team standing with 132.50 points, Cincinnati was second with 123 points followed by Houston with 97.50, Charlotte 79, East Carolina 65, DePaul 56, Memphis 52, South Florida 48, Tulane 47, Louisville 43.50, Southern Miss 42.50 and Marquette 33.

Noah Bryant highlighted the men's performances, winning the discus with a throw of 166'3" setting a new school record in the process. Bryan Bruner took fifth in the discus with a throw of 154'. Cedric Norman finished third in the high jump with a jump of 6'10.75" and Michael Hardrick was tied for fourth with a jump of 6'6.75". Shane Brandford was eighth in the javelin with a throw of 155'5". Stevenson McKinney took sixth-place in the 400 meters with a time of 47.88, posting a season- and personal-best. Tavius Freeman finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.56.
