Golden Eagles Add Performers To List of Regional Qualifiers
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss outdoor track and field teams added two more performers to the list of regional qualifiers in the Southern Miss Invite, today.
Senior Jessica Crump posted a personal and school record time in the 800 meters, finishing first with a time of 2:09.82 and qualifying for a regional meet. Jeb Meschke joined the list of qualifiers for a regional meet with a 2041 toss in the javelin, taking first-place in the event. Crump and Meschke becomes the third and fourth Southern Miss athletes to qualify for regional competition.
Corey Yates was the top Eagle finisher in the 100 meters, finishing eighth with a time of 10.93. Marcus Polk finished second in the 200 meters with times of 21.45 and Durran Dunn was sixth with a time of 21.95. Kenny Johnson ran a 48.03 in the 400 meters, placing third, while Marvin Williams posted a time of 48.61 and finished sixth. Jerry Teachey finished eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.16. Matthew Cheruiyot was first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:18.75. The 4x100-meter relay team placed second with a time of 40.84. The 4x400-meter relay team finished second with a time of 3:12.12.
In the field events, Cedric Norman finished first in the high jump, posting a height of 611.75, and Michael Hardrick jumped 68 to finish third. Matt Fant finished second in the pole vault with a height of 140. Marvin Lucas jumped to a second-place finish in the long jump with a 238.25 jump. Norman finished fourth with a jump of 228.50, with Marcus Polk and Corey Seals finishing fifth and sixth with jumps of 227.75 and 223.75, respectively. Noah Bryant placed third in the shot put with a toss of 421.25, then followed with a first-place finish in the discus with a throw of 158. Casey McGehee was fourth with a throw of 1375 in the discus. Bryant, Eric Lyon and McGehee, all finished two-three-four in the hammer. Conrad Chanove finished third in the javelin with a toss of 194.10 and Marvin Lucas took fourth-place with a throw of 17211.
Angela Johnson and Prudence Reid finished one-two in the 100 meters, posting times of 12.19 and 12.20, respectively. Joanna Williams finished eighth with a time of 12.85 in the 100 meters. Reid finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.18. SDori Sims bettered her time in the 400 meters, registering a time of 55.78 for a season and personal-best and finishing first in the event. Candi Johnson and Shannon Weaver placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 400 meters with a times of 58.13 and 58.33. Alisha Edwards ran a 2:19.38 in the 800, finishing sixth. Lydiah Chepkwony and Karen Tankersley finished fourth and fifth, in the 1,500 meters with a times of 5:01.53 and 5:03.02 Keri White sprinted to first-place in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:48.84 and Tomeka Shaffer was third with a time of 12:37.79. Jocelyn Young ran a 1:05.37 in the 400 intermediate hurdles and finished second. The womens 4x100-meter relay team ran a 47.03 for first-place and the 4x400-meter relay team finished first with a time of 3:45.53.
In the field events, Sabrina Norwood and Krista Miller tied for third in the high jump with a height of 55 and Mary Roper took sixth-place with a height of 51. Dasha Wakefield was first in the pole vault with a 1011.75 height and Regina Ballinger turned in a height of 96.25 for fifth-place. Shannon Weaver finished seventh in the long jump at 178.25. Sims was third in the triple jump at 393.75, posting a season and personal-best. Michelle Zorn throw a distance of 400.50 in the shot, finishing first. Wakefield also finished seventh in the javelin with a toss of 1096.
The Southern Miss will compete at the Drake Relays, Apr. 25-26, in Des Moines and the UL-Monroe Classic.
