Golden Eagle Track Teams Fare Well at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet
BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Southern Miss men's and women's track and field teams continued to show improvement on the season, posting several outstanding performances, Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet.
Southern Miss performers Cedric Norman and Conrad Chanove recorded automatic regional qualifying marks in their respective events, the high jump and javelin. Norman registered his third 7-foot height, jumping 72.25 to win the high jump competition. Freshman Conrad Chanove recorded a distance of 2051 in the javelin. The mark also was a season-best in the javelin. Marvin Lucas jumped 239.50 in the long jump, finishing fifth, while Marcus Polk finished eighth with a jump of 236. Norman also finished sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 476.25. Noah Bryant threw a distance of 1548 in the discus, finishing sixth. Bryant followed with a throw of 1409 in the hammer with Eric Lyon finishing fifth with a throw of 1306 and Casey McGehee sixth with a throw of 1269. Jeb Meschke was eighth in the javelin with a throw of 19610.
Kenny Johnson posted a time of 48.29 in the 400 meters, finishing fifth. Marcus Polk ran a time of 10.76 in the 100 meters and a time of 21.63 in the 200 meters. The 4x100 relay team posted a time of 40.92, finishing fourth and finished the day with a time of 3:16.56 in the 4x400 meter relay.
On the womens side, Dasha Wakefield took top honors in the pole vault with a height of 115.75. SDori Sims finished fifth in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 384.75. Krista Miller finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 55.75 and Sabrina Norwood was sixth with a height of 53.75.
Prudence Reid registered a season-best time of 11.97 in the 100 meters, finishing second and Angela Johnson ran a 12.09, finishing fifth. S'Dori Sims turned a time of 56.47 in the 400 meters. Jessica Crump finished second with a time of 2:11.34 in the 800 meters. Alisha Edwards finished seventh with a time of 2:18.04. Karen Tankersley registered a time of 4:59.88 in the 1,500 meters. Jocelyn Young ran a 1:04.94 in the 400 meter hurdles to finish sixth. The 4x100 meter relay team turned in a time of 46.60 to finish third and also finished third in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:48.71.
The Golden Eagle teams will compete in their own meet, Friday, April 18 at the Track and Soccer Complex.
