Southern Miss Teams Finish Seventh at the Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Southern Miss men and women's track and field teams concluded their weekend, finishing seventh at the Alabama Relays, held in the Sam Bailey Track in Tuscaloosa. Only relays were scored in the meet and the Golden Eagles scored 25 points, while the Lady Eagles scored 18 points. Both Alabama teams captured the team titles.

Junior high jumper Cedric Norman highlighted Sunday's competition, winning the high jump and posting another NCAA regional qualifying mark at 7'3.25". The mark sets a new school record and a personal-best for Norman. The men's 4x200-meter relay team (Kenny Johnson, Shane Brandford, Durran Dunn, Marcus Polk) posted the top collegiate time of 1:25.33.

In other competition, Noah Bryant finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 153'8" and threw 45'7.25" in the shot put. The 4x100-meter relay team registered a time of 41.38 for fifth-place. The 4x800 relay team ran an 8:27.20 time, while the 1,600 sprint medley relay team ran a time of 3:40.56. The 4x400-meter relay team was fourth with a time of 3:15.24.

The 1,600 sprint medley relay team (Prudence Reid, Angela Johnson, S'Dori Sims, Jessica Crump) highlighted the Lady Eagle performances, finishing first in with a time of 4:00.03. the 4x1,500-meter relay team finished seventh with a time of 20:19.62, while the 4x200-meter relay team ran a 1:39.71 for sixth-place. The distance medley team finished seventh with a time of 13:02.36 and the 4x400-meter team ran a 3:52.86.

In field events, Dasha Wakefield recorded a height of 11'6.25" in the pole vault. Denise Wilson and S'Dori Sims finished seventh and eight, respectively, in the triple jump, jumping 37'11.25" and 37'9.25". Kate Juedes took fifth in the javelin with a toss of 127'11".

Southern Miss will compete at the LSU Paper Tiger Meet in Baton Rouge, La., March 28-29.
