Southern Miss Performs Well At Southern Miss Invitational
The Southern Miss men's and women's outdoor track and field teams posted several top performances in the Southern Miss Invitational, but only one Southern Miss record was broken.

Eric Lyon set a new school record in the hammer with a toss of 131', finishing second while teammates Noah Bryant finished third with a throw of 124'8" and Casey McGehee sixth with a throw of 106'11". Bryan Bruner continued to perform well in his event, finishing first in the shot put with a throw of 53'7.75". Bryant and Lyon was fifth and sixth, respectively, with throws of 43'10" and 43'5.25". Bruner also was the top collegiate athlete in the discus with a throw of 151'6", finishing second. Bryant was third in the discuw with a throw of 144'10". Matt Fant finished third in the pole vault with a jump of 13'6.25", while the Golden Eagles took the top two heights in the high jump with Cedric Norman at 6'9.75" and Michael Hardrick at 6'6".

In the running events, Shane Brandford took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.67, while Norman was sixth with a time of 10.90. Marcus Polk finished sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.03. Southern Miss placed two Eagles in the top eight in the 400 meters, with Marvin Williams at fourth and Daryl Mensey at eighth with times of 49.97 and 50.29, respectively. Isaac Gang posted a time of 1:57.12 in the 800 meters to finish fourth. Tavius Freeman finished third in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.91.

On the women's side, the Lady Eagles had 21 performers who finished eighth or better in 13 events. Prudence Reid took first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.77, and Yolanda Johnson was sixth with a time of 12.33. Johnson also took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.25 and Kasey House was sixth with a time of 25.32. Jessica Crump took top honors in the 400 meters with a time of 56.62. Janet Rono and Oby Amadi finished two-three in the 800 meters with times of 2:19.16 and 2:19.44, respectively. Rono captured the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:40.13, with Karen Tankersley finishing seventh with a time of 5:07.10. Rose Kurui finished fifth in the 3,000 with a time of 11:30.22. Keri White and Kurui finished fourth and fifth in the 5,000 meters with times of 19:02.31 and 19:37.37. The 4x100-meter relay team turned in the top time in at 46.68. The 4x400-meter relay team was third with a time of 4:01.15.

In the field events, Kate Juedes led a trio of Lady Eagles in the high jump to take first-place with a jump of 5'6". Teammates Sabrina Norwood and Krista Miller finished third and fourth, with jumps of 5'6" and 5'4.25, respectively. Sandra Allen was fourth in the long jump with a jump of 18'0.50". Tamara Dayes was second in the shot put with a toss of 44'0.75" and followed up with a first-place finish in the hammer with a throw of 146'2". Michelle Zorn had a throw of 42' in the shot to finish third. Emilie Taylor finished seventh in the javelin with a throw of 121'9".

Southern Miss will compete in the Alabama Relays, Mar. 23-24.
