Southern Miss Men's Outdoor Team Finishes Second
The Southern Miss men's outdoor track team opened the 2002 season at the Tiger Track and Field Invitational, finishing second, Saturday, Mar. 2.
The Golden Eagles finished second with 68 points behind South Carolina (84), followed by Alabama State (64), Grambling State (61), Auburn University (57), Louisiana-Monroe (50), Hinds CC (42), Alabama A&M (37), UNO (35), Southeastern Louisiana (25), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (24.50) and Jackson State (17).
Senior Bryan Burner led a group of Golden Eagles in scoring in the field events with a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 54'5" and third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 136'1". Teammate Noah Bryant finished first in the discus with a toss of 148'11". Michael Hardrick took first in the high jump with a jump of 6'8". Marcus Polk finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 21'3". Eric Lyon finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 44'6".
In the running events, Marvin Lucas finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.27 and Polk took seventh-place with a time of 22.31. Isaac Gang finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.12. Tavius Freeman finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.32. The 4x100-meter relay "B" team finished third with a time of 41.80. The 4x400-meter relay team finished third with a time of 3:25.92.
The Golden Eagles return to action, Mar. 9, when they host their annual Southern Miss Relays.
