Golden Eagles Finish Seventh at C-USA Indoor Meet
HOUSTON, Texas -- The Southern Miss indoor track and field teams finished seventh and eighth, respectively, at the 2003 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Houston Feb. 28-March 1 at the Yeoman Fieldhouse on the UH campus.
On the women’s side, Houston took the team title with 135.50 points, followed by South Florida with 131, TCU 75, Marquette 70, Cincinnati 52.50, Tulane 46, Charlotte 35.50, Southern Miss 28, Louisville 27, Memphis 19, DePaul 17.50, UAB 15 and East Carolina 11.
Top performers for the Lady Eagles in the two-day meet’s second day of competition included Jessica Crump, who finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.73, and Prudence Reid finished fifth in the 60-meter with a time of 7.65. Kate Juedes and Sabrina finished in a tie for second in the women’s high jump in clearing a personal and Lady Eagle season-best 1.72 meters (5’7.75”), and Krista Miller finished in a tie for seventh with a height of 1.62m (5’3.75”). The 4x400-meter relay team finished eighth with a time of 3:59.93.
On the men’s side, Houston won the team title with 155 points, followed by TCU 140.50, Memphis 75, East Carolina 67, Charlotte 53, Marquette 62.50, Southern Miss 58 and DePaul 40.
The Golden Eagle performers Cedric Norman and Marvin Lucas finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the triple jump with jumps of 57’6.25” and 45’9”. The 4x400-meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 3:20.80.
The 2003 outdoor season gets underway March 8 with Southern Miss hosting its own Southern Miss Invite at the Southern Miss Track and Soccer Complex.
